Pacific Islands Day / Pacific Nations Fact Trail

Pacific Nations Fact Trail

Children visit stations for different Pacific nations, such as Samoa, Tonga, Fiji, the Cook Islands, Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu, collecting a fact and drawing a flag at each.

How to run it

  1. Set up stations, each with a nation's flag, a map showing where it is, and three facts, for example: Papua New Guinea has more than 800 languages; Fiji's capital is Suva; Tonga is a kingdom.
  2. Include a 'what is this?' object or photo at each, such as a bilum string bag from Papua New Guinea or tivaevae from the Cook Islands.
  3. Children carry a fact booklet, visit each station, draw the flag and write one fact.
  4. Invite families with Pacific heritage to add a fact, photo or object to a station if they wish.
