International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples / Indigenous Knowledge Fact Trail
Indigenous Knowledge Fact Trail
Children follow a trail of clue cards around the room or yard to discover Indigenous knowledge and achievements, from the Budj Bim eel traps to Pacific star navigation.
How to run it
- Write fact cards with a question, for example: the Budj Bim Cultural Landscape in Victoria, where Gunditjmara people built eel traps thousands of years ago, became World Heritage listed in 2019.
- Add cards on the Brewarrina fish traps in New South Wales, Pacific voyagers navigating by stars and ocean swells, Andean farmers growing thousands of potato varieties, and Inuit snow goggles that protect eyes from glare.
- Hide or place the cards around the space with a number on each.
- Pairs follow the trail and record answers, then the group discusses what surprised them.
