After School Quick STEM / Twisted Paper Loop Magic
Twisted Paper Loop Magic
Children make a twisted paper loop, predict what will happen when they cut it, then discover the surprising one-sided shape that results.
How to run it
- Give each child a long strip of paper.
- Show them how to add a half twist and tape the ends into a loop.
- Ask them to draw a line along the middle without lifting the pencil and see where it goes.
- Have them predict, then cut along the line and compare results.
- Try again with a full twist or cut one-third from the edge.
You will need
- long paper strips
- sticky tape
- scissors
- pencils
Make it easier or harderPre-tape the loops for children who need help; older children can record predictions and invent their own twist variations.
SafetySupervise scissor use.
