Refugee Week / Courage Stars
Courage Stars
Children think about times they felt brave in something new, like starting school or joining a team, and write or draw them on stars for a 'courage sky' display.
How to run it
- Talk about how people who move to a new country show great courage, and that everyone feels nervous about new things sometimes.
- Share an example of your own, such as a first day at a new job.
- Children write or draw a brave moment of their own on a paper star, keeping it to everyday experiences.
- Hang the stars on dark paper or string and invite children to read a few aloud if they wish.
You will need
- paper star templates
- coloured pencils
- dark poster paper or string
- glue stick
Make it easier or harderYounger children draw their moment; older children write a short sentence about what helped them be brave.
SafetyKeep the focus on everyday experiences, and never ask children to share their own or their family's migration story unless they choose to.
My Time Our Place · Outcome 1, Outcome 3Children reflect on their own resilience and recognise courage in others.
