Toy Shadow Tracing
Children trace the shadows of toys onto paper outdoors and watch how the shadows change, linking art with simple science.
How to run it
- Place toys on paper in a sunny spot.
- Children trace the shadow outline with a pencil.
- Colour in or decorate the tracing.
- Return later and trace again to see the change.
- Talk about why shadows move and change length.
You will need
- small toys
- paper
- pencils
- markers
Make it easier or harderYounger children can trace one shadow; older children can record changes hourly and measure length.
SafetyFollow sun safety: hats, sunscreen and shade breaks.
