Matariki / Remember, Celebrate, Look Ahead
Remember, Celebrate, Look Ahead
A calm reflective activity where children fill three star-shaped cards: someone or something they remember, something to celebrate now, and a hope for the year ahead.
How to run it
- Explain that Matariki is often described as a time to remember, to celebrate the present and to look to the future.
- Give each child three star cards labelled with each idea.
- Invite children to draw or write on each one, reminding them they can remember a person, a pet, a place or a happy moment, and that sharing is optional.
- Display the stars together as a night sky on dark paper, or let children take theirs home.
You will need
- star-shaped cards
- black or navy backing paper
- pencils and markers
- glitter pens (optional)
- Blu Tack
Make it easier or harderYounger children can draw pictures only; older children can write a short poem across the three stars.
