Big Kids Club / Old Electronics Pull-Apart
Old Electronics Pull-Apart
Children use screwdrivers to take apart old radios and gadgets, discovering the parts inside. A hands-on look at how everyday technology works.
How to run it
- Remove all batteries, cords and any capacitors before the session.
- Give each small group a device, screwdrivers and a tray for parts.
- Children unscrew casings and sort the parts they find.
- Talk about what each part might do and display findings.
You will need
- old radios or small electronics (batteries and cords removed)
- small screwdrivers
- safety glasses
- trays
Make it easier or harderChoose devices with large screws for less experienced children; older children can label parts and research them.
SafetyAvoid old TVs, microwaves and screens; children wear safety glasses and an educator checks for sharp edges and broken glass.
My Time Our Place · Outcome 4Children investigate how things work, building curiosity and problem-solving skills.
