World Music Day / Music Around the World Map
Music Around the World Map
Children listen to short pieces of music from different countries, then pin each one on a world map and draw how it made them feel.
How to run it
- Prepare a playlist of short instrumental or vocal pieces from different countries, and invite families to suggest music from their own cultures.
- Play each piece and ask children what instruments they can hear and how it makes them feel.
- Reveal the country and pin a label or picture on a world map.
- Have children draw or write a response to their favourite piece, and invite families to share music with the group.
You will need
- world map
- device and speaker
- paper
- coloured pencils
- pins or sticky dots
Make it easier or harderYounger children can move to the music and point to the country; older children can research each instrument heard.
SafetyChoose respectful, age-appropriate pieces and present them as music people enjoy today, not as stereotypes.
