Songkran / Mon Son Pha Circle Game
Mon Son Pha Circle Game
Children play mon son pha, a traditional Thai circle game where a runner secretly drops a cloth behind a seated player, who must notice and give chase.
How to run it
- Seat children in a circle facing inwards and choose one runner holding a soft cloth.
- While the group sings or chants, the runner walks around the outside and quietly drops the cloth behind someone.
- If that player notices, they grab the cloth and chase the runner around the circle back to the empty spot.
- If they do not notice before the runner comes all the way round, the runner taps them lightly on the shoulder and they become the new runner.
You will need
- soft cloth or scarf
Make it easier or harderYounger children can skip instead of run; older children can learn a Thai counting chant to use while playing.
SafetyUse a soft cloth, run in one direction only and keep a clear path around the circle.
