French Day / Mini Tour Cycling Race
Mini Tour Cycling Race
Children race a looping course on bikes, scooters or on foot in stages, earning coloured jerseys like the famous French cycling race held every July.
How to run it
- Mark a looping course with cones, including a gentle slope or bumpy section as the mountain stage.
- Explain the jerseys: yellow for the overall leader, green for sprint points and white with red dots for the best climber.
- Run short timed stages in small heats, awarding points for sprints and the climb.
- Pass a yellow bib or sash to the current leader after each stage.
- Finish with a slow cool-down lap and a podium where everyone is cheered.
You will need
- cones or chalk
- stopwatch
- yellow, green and dotted bibs or sashes
- bikes, scooters or trikes (optional)
- helmets if riding
Make it easier or harderYounger children can run the course on foot with no timing; older children can keep their own points tables across stages.
SafetyHelmets are required for any riding, keep riders and runners in separate heats, and run it in the shade on hot days with water breaks.
