Milk Day / Milk Plastic Experiment
Milk Plastic Experiment
Children watch warm milk and vinegar turn into curds, then mould the curds into shapes that dry into a hard plastic-like material.
How to run it
- An educator warms a cup of milk until hot but not boiling.
- Children stir in four teaspoons of vinegar and watch curds form.
- Strain the curds through a sieve and let them cool.
- Press the curds into moulds or shapes and leave to dry for a few days.
You will need
- milk
- white vinegar
- saucepan or microwave jug
- sieve
- paper towel
- cookie cutters
Make it easier or harderEducators do the straining for a simpler version; older children can test different amounts of vinegar.
SafetyOnly educators heat the milk; let the curds cool before handling and check for dairy allergies.
