International Literacy Day / Many Languages Word Wall
Many Languages Word Wall
Children and families add words from the languages spoken at home, such as 'hello', 'book' and 'friend', building a colourful wall that celebrates many ways of reading and writing.
How to run it
- Invite families ahead of time to share a few words in their home languages, including how they are written and said.
- Choose a short set of everyday words, such as hello, thank you, book and friend.
- Have children write each word on card in as many languages and scripts as the group can share, with a picture.
- Display the wall and practise saying the words together, thanking the families who helped.
You will need
