Science Day / Foam Eruption Experiment
Foam Eruption Experiment
Older children watch yeast break down mild hydrogen peroxide to make a huge, warm foam eruption, learning about catalysts.
How to run it
- Set a bottle on a tray outside and put on goggles and gloves.
- An educator pours 3% hydrogen peroxide into the bottle with dish soap and food colouring.
- Mix yeast with warm water in a cup.
- Pour the yeast in quickly and step back to watch the foam.
- Talk about what made the foam.
You will need
- 3% hydrogen peroxide
- dry yeast
- warm water
- dish soap
- food colouring
- plastic bottle
- tray
- goggles
- gloves
Make it easier or harderMake it a watch-and-predict demo for younger children, or let older children test yeast amounts.
SafetyEducator-led with 3% peroxide only, goggles and gloves on, and do not touch foam with bare skin.
