World Food Day / Family Breakfast Survey Graph
Family Breakfast Survey Graph
Children survey what everyone eats for breakfast at home, then graph the results to see how breakfasts differ across families and cultures.
How to run it
- Brainstorm breakfast foods eaten around the world, such as congee, roti, toast, cereal, eggs and rice dishes.
- Children ask peers and educators what they usually eat for breakfast and tally the answers.
- Group the results into categories and draw a bar graph together.
- Talk about any breakfasts that were new to the group.
- Display the graph with drawings of each breakfast.
You will need
- clipboards
- tally sheets
- large paper
- markers
- rulers
Make it easier or harderYounger children can use picture tally sheets; older children can calculate the most common breakfast and design a pie chart.
SafetyNo food is handled; keep answers voluntary and be sensitive that not every child eats breakfast at home.
My Time Our Place · Outcome 1, Outcome 4Children collect and present real data while learning about and valuing the cultures in their group.
