Science Day / Egg Drop Challenge
Egg Drop Challenge
Older children design a protective package so a raw egg survives a drop from height, testing their engineering ideas.
How to run it
- Give each team the same limited materials.
- Allow time to plan and build their package.
- An educator drops each package from a safe height, such as a play platform.
- Check eggs together and talk about which designs worked.
You will need
- raw eggs
- straws
- tape
- paper
- cotton wool
- plastic bags
Make it easier or harderUse plastic eggs for younger children, or add a budget for materials for older children.
SafetyCheck for egg allergies, wash hands after, and only educators drop from height.
