International Dance Day / Community Dance Share
Community Dance Share
Families, educators or local dance groups are invited to teach the children a dance they love, from their own culture or community.
How to run it
- Invite families, staff or a local dance group to share a short dance, and offer to pay community performers for their time.
- Prepare the group by talking about how dance is part of celebrations, culture and fun around the world.
- Have guests share the dance's background and teach a few simple steps.
- Finish with the children performing what they learned and writing thank-you cards for the guests.
You will need
- device and speaker
- card for thank-you notes
- markers
Make it easier or harderYounger children can learn a short sequence; older children can ask guests questions and present what they learned.
SafetyLet guests lead on what is appropriate to share; no costumes of other cultures, though children may wear clothes from their own family's culture.
