Chalk Festival / Chalk Hopscotch
Chalk Hopscotch
Children draw their own hopscotch courts with chalk and play, practising balance, counting and taking turns.
How to run it
- Show children a classic hopscotch layout.
- Have pairs draw and number their own court with chalk.
- Teach the rules: toss a marker, hop the squares and pick it up on the way back.
- Encourage children to invent new court shapes and rules.
You will need
- chalk
- beanbags or flat stones
Make it easier or harderUse fewer squares for younger children; older children can add maths rules such as hopping only on even numbers.
SafetyDraw courts on flat, non-slip surfaces away from traffic.
