World Space Week / Asteroid Belt Dodge
Asteroid Belt Dodge
A fast outdoor game where 'spaceships' try to cross the asteroid belt while educators and children roll soft balls across their path.
How to run it
- Mark a wide 'asteroid belt' zone with cones, with a launch pad on one side and a space station on the other.
- Choose a few rollers to stand along the sides with soft balls.
- On 'Launch!', spaceships run across while rollers roll the asteroids along the ground.
- Anyone tagged by an asteroid becomes a roller, and the last spaceship flying starts the next round as a roller.
You will need
- soft foam balls
- cones
Make it easier or harderFor younger children, roll balls slowly and let tagged players re-launch; for older children, add 'shield' bibs that block one hit.
SafetyBalls must be soft and rolled along the ground, not thrown at bodies, and keep the playing area clear of obstacles.
My Time Our Place · Outcome 3Children build physical coordination and enjoy active play that supports their wellbeing.
