International Dot Day / What Can a Dot Become?
What Can a Dot Become?
Children each draw a dot, then pass it on so a friend can turn it into something unexpected, sparking playful creativity and sharing ideas.
How to run it
- Give each child a sheet of paper with one dot drawn anywhere on it.
- Ask them to turn the dot into anything they like: a face, an animal, a planet or a pattern.
- Next round, swap sheets with a new blank dot and repeat, or pass a half-finished one to a friend to complete.
- Share the creations and talk about how many different ideas came from the same simple dot.
You will need
- paper
- pencils
- coloured pencils or markers
Make it easier or harderYounger children can describe their drawing out loud; older children can write a short story caption for each creation.
My Time Our Place · Outcome 4, Outcome 5Children use imagination and flexible thinking, then communicate the ideas behind their drawings.
