World Animal Day / What Animals Need Sort
What Animals Need Sort
Children sort picture cards to match a dog, chook, goldfish, horse and wild magpie with the food, shelter and care each one needs, then discuss what good animal care looks like.
How to run it
- Lay out large animal cards for a dog, chook, goldfish, horse and wild magpie.
- Give small groups a pile of need cards, such as hay, a hutch, fresh water, a tank filter, a vet visit and native trees.
- Have groups place each card with the right animal, noticing which needs are shared.
- Talk about why wild animals should not be fed bread or treated like pets.
- Ask each child to name one way they can be kind to animals this week.
