World Music Day / Playground Busking Corners
Playground Busking Corners
Inspired by World Music Day's tradition of free music in the streets, children set up busking spots around the playground and perform for wandering audiences.
How to run it
- Explain that on World Music Day, people play free music in streets and parks in many countries.
- Set up four or five 'busking corners' with a sign and a cushion or mat.
- Small groups prepare a short piece using voices, homemade instruments or body percussion.
- Groups take turns busking while the rest stroll around as an audience, clapping instead of tipping.
You will need
- homemade or classroom instruments
- signs
- mats or cushions
- timer
Make it easier or harderYounger children can perform a familiar song together; older children can compose their own short piece with a chorus.
SafetyKeep corners spaced apart so volumes don't clash and use sun protection outdoors.
