Around the World Day / Mexican Fiesta Day
Mexican Fiesta Day
Children enjoy a day of Mexican music, simple tacos and nachos, shaker making and a piñata, learning about Mexican celebrations along the way.
How to run it
- Play Mexican music and share a few facts about Mexico.
- Make shakers from bottles or cups filled with dried beans and sealed well.
- Build tacos or nachos together at a food station.
- Run a supervised piñata with a soft stick, one child at a time and others well back.
- Talk respectfully about Mexican culture rather than dressing up in stereotyped costumes.
You will need
- piñata
- soft stick or pool noodle
- plastic bottles or cups
- dried beans
- tape
- taco and nacho ingredients
- music playlist
Make it easier or harderYounger children can decorate shakers and add toppings; older children can prepare ingredients and lead games.
SafetyCheck allergies; shaker lids must be securely taped as dried beans are a choking risk; keep a wide clear zone around the piñata.
