Italian Festa Day / Pasta Shape Name Collage
Pasta Shape Name Collage
Children sort dried pasta, learn what the Italian shape names mean, such as little butterflies and shells, and glue them into a labelled picture.
How to run it
- Set out bowls of different dried pasta shapes.
- Share the meanings: farfalle are butterflies, conchiglie are shells, orecchiette are little ears, ruote are wheels and penne are quills or pens.
- Children sort the shapes and guess which name belongs to each.
- Glue the pasta onto card to make a picture, such as a garden of butterflies or a beach of shells.
- Label each shape with its Italian name.
You will need
- assorted dried pasta shapes
- sturdy card
- PVA glue
- markers
- printed name list
Make it easier or harderYounger children can make a free collage with two or three shapes; older children can research and add two more pasta names.
SafetyContains gluten, so take care with children with coeliac disease handling it and use gluten-free pasta if needed; small pasta can be a choking risk, so supervise younger children.
