Music and Dance Day / Homemade Instrument Band
Homemade Instrument Band
Children make box guitars, shakers and drums from recycled materials, then play them together as a band.
How to run it
- Stretch rubber bands over open boxes to make guitars.
- Half-fill containers with rice, seal the lids and decorate as shakers.
- Cover tins or tubs with paper or balloon skins to make drums.
- Play together and explore loud, soft, fast and slow sounds.
You will need
- small boxes
- rubber bands
- rice or dried beans
- tins or plastic tubs
- masking tape
- paper
Make it easier or harderPre-seal shakers for younger children; older children can tune their guitars by stretching bands.
