All About Australia Day / Hello in Many Languages Wall
Hello in Many Languages Wall
Children collect greetings from the languages spoken in their families and community, then build a colourful welcome wall for the entrance.
How to run it
- Start with the local First Nations word for welcome, if the community shares it publicly.
- Ask children and families what languages they speak at home and how they say hello.
- Children write or decorate each greeting on a speech bubble, with the language name underneath.
- Practise saying them together and greet each other in a new language through the day.
- Display the wall at the sign-in area for families to see and add to.
You will need
- coloured card cut into speech bubbles
- markers
- sticky tape or Blu Tack
Make it easier or harderYounger children can decorate a bubble an educator writes; older children can add how to pronounce each word.
