Greek Day / Greek Island Hopping
Greek Island Hopping
Children dance between hoop islands to Greek music and hop onto an island when the music stops, as islands are named and gradually removed.
How to run it
- Explain that Greece has thousands of islands and many families travel between them by ferry.
- Lay out hoops or chalk circles as islands, each labelled with a Greek island name such as Crete or Rhodes.
- Play Greek music while children move around the space.
- When the music stops, everyone hops onto an island, sharing so no one is left out.
- Remove an island each round so children must squeeze in together, cheering for teamwork.
You will need
- hoops or chalk
- island name labels
- Greek music
- speaker
- printed map of Greece
Make it easier or harderYounger children can keep all islands in play; older children can find each island on a map before hopping on.
SafetyRemind children to step, not jump, onto crowded islands and keep the space clear of trip hazards.
