St Patrick's Day / Gaelic Football Skills Circuit
Gaelic Football Skills Circuit
Children try the skills of Gaelic football, an Irish sport that mixes kicking, hand passing and bouncing, in a fast rotating circuit.
How to run it
- Explain that Gaelic football is a popular Irish sport where players can kick, punch-pass and carry the ball.
- Set up stations: hand passing with the fist, kicking to a partner, and a cone dribble with a bounce every four steps.
- Add a solo station where children drop the ball onto their foot and tap it back to their hands.
- Rotate groups every five minutes.
- Finish with a small-sided game using hand passes only.
You will need
- soft round balls or soccer balls
- cones
- bibs
- whistle
Make it easier or harderYounger children can carry the ball and bounce it at any point; older children can play a full game with all the rules.
SafetyUse soft balls, keep games non-contact and schedule in the shade with water breaks on hot days.
