Magic Day / Colour-Swirling Milk Magic
Colour-Swirling Milk Magic
Children add drops of food colouring to milk, then touch it with soapy cotton buds and watch the colours burst and swirl like magic.
How to run it
- Pour a thin layer of full-cream milk onto a plate.
- Add a few drops of different food colouring near the centre.
- Dip a cotton bud in dish soap and touch it to the milk.
- Watch the colours swirl and talk about how soap breaks up the fat in milk.
You will need
- full-cream milk
- food colouring
- dish soap
- cotton buds
- plates or shallow trays
Make it easier or harderYounger children can simply enjoy the colours; older children can test skim versus full-cream milk and record results.
