World Teachers' Day / Child-Led Game Leaders
Child-Led Game Leaders
Small teams of children take the educator's role, planning, explaining and running a playground game for the whole group while staff play along.
How to run it
- Put children into teams of three and give each team a game card with ideas or let them choose a favourite game.
- Give teams ten minutes to plan how they'll explain the rules, set up and keep it fair.
- Each team runs their game for about ten minutes with the rest of the group, including educators.
- After each game, ask players for one thing the leaders did well.
You will need
- cones
- balls
- bibs
- whistle (optional)
- game idea cards
Make it easier or harderYounger children can lead a simple game they already know, such as a tagging game; older children can invent a new game with written rules.
SafetyAgree on playing boundaries and remind leaders to choose games suited to the space and the youngest players.
My Time Our Place · Outcome 4, Outcome 5Children take on leadership, organise others and communicate rules clearly, building confidence as involved learners.
