All About Australia Day / Bush Foods Tasting Table

Bush Foods Tasting Table

Children taste and smell native Australian foods like lemon myrtle, wattleseed and finger lime, and learn where they grow and who has known them longest.

How to run it

  1. Buy a few native food products, from Aboriginal-owned suppliers where you can.
  2. Set out small tasting portions with a label and a picture of where each one grows.
  3. Explain that First Nations peoples have known and used these foods for many thousands of years.
  4. Let children smell, taste and rate each one with a sticker chart.
  5. Finish by baking something simple with one ingredient, like lemon myrtle biscuits.

You will need

  • native food products (lemon myrtle, wattleseed, finger lime, native mint)
