Science Day / Bicarb Soda Volcanoes
Bicarb Soda Volcanoes
Children shape a volcano around a bottle and make it erupt with bicarb soda and vinegar, exploring chemical reactions.
How to run it
- Stand a small bottle on a tray and shape playdough around it.
- Add bicarb soda and a drop of dish soap to the bottle.
- Mix vinegar with food colouring in a cup.
- Pour the vinegar in and watch it erupt.
- Talk about the gas bubbles being made.
You will need
- small plastic bottle
- playdough
- tray

- vinegar
- dish soap
- food colouring
Make it easier or harderLet younger children just pour and watch, while older children test different amounts and record results.
SafetyKeep vinegar away from eyes and supervise closely.
