Book Week / Australian Author Study Corner
Australian Author Study Corner
Children explore several books by one Australian author, spotting patterns in their characters, settings and style, then write a group letter about what they discovered.
How to run it
- Choose an Australian children's author whose books fit this year's theme and gather four to six of their titles.
- Read the books together or in small groups over a few days.
- Make a chart of what the books have in common, such as types of characters, places, humour or big ideas.
- Write a group letter or card to the author through their publisher sharing favourite moments and questions.
You will need
- 4 to 6 books by one author
- chart paper
- markers
- card for letter writing
Make it easier or harderYounger children vote for their favourite book and draw a scene; older children compare two authors side by side.
My Time Our Place · Outcome 4, Outcome 5Comparing an author's books helps children notice patterns, ask questions and share their thinking.
