World Turtle Day / Turtle Shell Crawl Relay
Turtle Shell Crawl Relay
Children crawl on hands and knees with a cushion or laundry basket shell on their back, carrying it to the finish without dropping it, slow and steady like a turtle.
How to run it
- Mark a short crawling course on grass or mats.
- Have each player crawl on all fours with a cushion or basket balanced on their back.
- If the shell falls off, the player stops, replaces it and keeps going.
- Pass the shell to the next teammate at the end of each lap.
- Share a fact about how a turtle's shell is part of its skeleton.
You will need
- cushions or plastic laundry baskets
- mats
- cones
Make it easier or harderYounger children can use a light cushion over a short course; older children can add a beanbag egg to carry as well.
SafetyUse soft surfaces, keep lanes apart and avoid heavy objects on backs.
