Volcano Day / The Floor Is Lava
The Floor Is Lava
Children cross the room using mats, cushions and hoops as stepping stones without touching the 'lava' floor.
How to run it
- Spread mats, cushions and hoops across the room as safe stepping spots.
- Explain that the floor is lava and only the safe spots can be touched.
- Children cross from one side to the other, one at a time or in a line.
- Remove or move a stepping stone each round to make it harder.
You will need
- gym mats
- cushions
- hoops
Make it easier or harderPlace stones closer for younger children; add timed or team crossings for older ones.
SafetyUse non-slip mats, keep gaps small enough to step rather than leap, and clear furniture edges.
