French Day / Silent Street Mime Show
Silent Street Mime Show
Children learn the basics of mime, a performance art with a long history on French stages and streets, then perform silent scenes for the group to guess.
How to run it
- Explain that mime tells a story with the body and face only, no words or sounds.
- Warm up with classic mime moves: pressing on an invisible wall, pulling a rope and climbing a ladder.
- Hand each pair a scene card such as walking a stubborn dog or carrying a too-full tray.
- Give pairs five minutes to practise, then perform for the group.
- Let the audience guess each scene and name the moves that made it clear.
You will need
- scene cards
- open floor space
- optional soft music
Make it easier or harderYounger children can copy an educator's mime; older children can create a three-part story with a beginning, middle and end.
