Ribbon Wand Dancing
Children make ribbon wands from sticks or straws and crepe paper, then dance to music to create swirls, spirals and waves.
How to run it
- Attach two or three long strips of crepe paper or ribbon to a paddle-pop stick, straw or short dowel with tape.
- Show children basic patterns: circles, figure eights, zigzags and waves.
- Play music and let children dance freely with their wands.
- Finish with a group ribbon routine where everyone follows a leader's pattern.
You will need
- crepe paper streamers or ribbon
- paddle-pop sticks or thick straws
- tape
- device and speaker
Make it easier or harderYounger children can use shorter ribbons and follow along; older children can choreograph a routine in small groups.
SafetyAllow plenty of space between dancers and avoid sharp-ended sticks.
