Reconciliation Week / Reconciliation History Timeline
Reconciliation History Timeline
Older children build a simple illustrated timeline of key moments on the road to reconciliation, such as the 1967 Referendum, and talk about why they matter.
How to run it
- Choose five to eight key dates using Reconciliation Australia or local First Nations organisation resources.
- Write each date and a one-line fact on a card strip.
- Have small groups research and illustrate one event each.
- Peg the strips in order along a string line or wall.
- Finish with a short group chat about what changed and why it matters.
You will need
- card strips
- textas
- string or wall space
- pegs or reusable adhesive
- printed fact sheets
Make it easier or harderUse fewer dates with picture prompts for younger children, or have older children add quotes and sources.
SafetyUse accurate, First Nations-informed resources and be ready to support children through sensitive history.
