Day of the Dead / Pan de Muerto Sweet Rolls

Pan de Muerto Sweet Rolls

Children shape soft orange-scented sweet bread rolls inspired by pan de muerto, the sugar-dusted bread shared in Mexico during Día de Muertos.

How to run it

  1. Share that pan de muerto is a sweet bread baked in Mexico for this celebration and shared with family and friends.
  2. Mix a simple sweet dough with flour, yeast, milk, butter, sugar, egg and orange zest, then knead and leave to rise for 45 minutes.
  3. Have children shape small round rolls and add thin dough strips across the top for decoration.
  4. Bake at 180°C for 15 to 20 minutes, brush with melted butter while warm and sprinkle with sugar.

You will need

  • plain flour
  • dried yeast
  • milk
  • butter
