Hanukkah / Giant Dreidel Movement Relay
Giant Dreidel Movement Relay
Teams spin or roll a giant box dreidel and complete the movement linked to the letter that lands face up, turning a traditional Hanukkah game into a high-energy outdoor relay.
How to run it
- Make a large dreidel die from a cube-shaped box, with nun, gimel, hei and shin on four sides and 'spin again' on the other two.
- Assign a movement to each letter, such as nun for five star jumps, gimel for a run to the far cone and back, hei for hopping halfway and shin for a crab walk.
- Line teams up; the first child rolls the box, calls the letter and completes the movement before tagging the next player.
- Finish with a quick cool-down while you recap what the letters mean.
You will need
- large cube-shaped cardboard box
- markers or paint
- cones
- letter-and-movement chart
Make it easier or harderUse picture prompts for younger children; older children can invent their own movements for each letter.
SafetyCheck the space for trip hazards and keep relay lanes well apart.
My Time Our Place · Outcome 3, Outcome 2Children stay active and cooperate in teams while becoming familiar with the letters of the dreidel.
