Italian Festa Day / Fresh Pasta With Nonna

Fresh Pasta With Nonna

Children make fresh pasta dough by hand and cut it into ribbons, ideally guided by a nonno, nonna or family member who makes pasta at home.

How to run it

  1. Invite a family member or local community member who makes fresh pasta to lead or help, if available.
  2. Make a flour well on the bench, crack eggs into it and let children mix with a fork, then knead.
  3. Rest the dough for 20 minutes while children share any family food traditions.
  4. Roll thin with rolling pins and cut into ribbons with blunt knives or a pizza cutter.
  5. Cook the pasta yourself in boiling water and serve with butter or a simple tomato sauce.

You will need

  • plain or 00 flour
  • eggs
  • rolling pins
  • blunt knives or pizza cutter

Make it easier or harderYounger children can knead and cut; older children can try shaping simple shapes like little ears by pressing with a thumb.
SafetyCheck allergy records first: contains gluten and egg (offer an egg-free or gluten-free dough if needed); only educators handle boiling water, and supervise cutting tools closely.
