World Food Day / Eat It, Freeze It, Compost It
Eat It, Freeze It, Compost It
Children run to different corners of the yard to show what they would do with a food in each scenario, learning simple ways to stop food going to waste.
How to run it
- Label four corners: eat it now, save it in the fridge or freezer, share it, and compost it.
- Call out scenarios, such as a bruised banana, leftover rice or apple cores.
- Children run to the corner they choose and explain their reason.
- Discuss the best answer, noting that bruised fruit can go in a smoothie or banana bread.
- Finish by making a group list of food-saving tips to share with families.
You will need
- four signs
- scenario cards
- open space
- whiteboard
Make it easier or harderYounger children can use picture cards and two corners; older children can write new scenarios for the group.
