World Music Day / Draw What You Hear
Draw What You Hear
Children listen to contrasting music and let their pencils and pastels move with the sound, creating abstract artworks that show rhythm and mood.
How to run it
- Give each child large paper and a selection of crayons or oil pastels.
- Play a short piece of slow, calm music and ask them to draw lines and shapes that match it.
- Switch to fast, loud music and continue on the same page or a new one.
- Compare artworks and talk about which colours and lines matched which sounds.
You will need
- large paper
- crayons or oil pastels
- device and speaker
Make it easier or harderYounger children can use one colour per song; older children can try to draw a 'map' of the music's structure.
