World Music Day / Cooperative Musical Hoops
Cooperative Musical Hoops
A no-one-is-out version of musical chairs: when the music stops, everyone must squeeze into the remaining hoops together.
How to run it
- Spread hula hoops across the floor or grass, one for every two or three children.
- Play music while children dance or move around the space.
- When the music stops, everyone must get at least one foot inside a hoop.
- Remove a hoop each round so children have to cooperate and squeeze in together.
You will need
- hula hoops
- device and speaker
Make it easier or harderYounger children can use big hoops and slower rounds; older children can add movement styles called out between rounds.
SafetyRemind children to move carefully and stop removing hoops before squeezing gets unsafe.
My Time Our Place · Outcome 2, Outcome 3Children work cooperatively to include everyone, enjoying active play that supports wellbeing.
